William Samoei Arap Ruto on his historic election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya after a fierce election campaign. We, at the OLF-OLA, send our best wishes for your success as you prepare to take up the responsibilities and challenges of this high office.
The Republic of Kenya and the Oromo people are eternally connected with a special bond. Kenya is home to the largest Oromo-speaking population anywhere in the world outside of the Oromia. For decades, it has been a second home and route to safety for our persecuted intellectuals and broader Oromo public fleeing repression under successive dictators in Ethiopia. We trust that the strong relationship between Kenya and the Oromo people and its movement for liberty and dignity in the Horn of Africa will grow to new heights under the government of William Ruto.
We look forward to working with you as we not only foster the bonds between our peoples but also create a peaceful region that is at peace with the rest of the world. As the famine and instability continue to threaten the wellbeing of our peoples, the need for concerted collective action across the region cannot be overemphasized.
